KNIFE wands and shatterproof drinking glasses are to be introduced at one of Liverpool’s glitziest night-time venues at weekends.

Tough new measures at the Newz Bar, in city centre Water Street, are being brought in after a double stabbing inside the venue last month.

The incident led to Merseyside Police demanding a review of the celebrity haunt’s licence.

Under the water purifier new conditions, imposed by Liverpool council’s licensing committee, hand-held knife sensors will be used by doormen after 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Customers will also be served drinks in plastic, shatterproof glasses
